Polardistans 05
BuiltByNOF

Every year in the 11th week the Polardistans is running. The trail length is about 320 km with three checkpoints : (start) 45 km (A), 90 km (B, 6 hour layover), 65 km (C), 30 km (B), 85 km (B), 5 km (finish). There is also a shorter version of the race for people which just want to try this type of racing.

The terrain is mostly rolling with some steep down- and uphills, the trail is marked and broken during the week before the race and then left as is. It provides an interesting and often spectacular view, running through dense forest, swamp areas, wide open forest, over lakes, along mountain valleys, climbing mountains above tree line, crossing rivers, forest roads and highways. The trail itself runs mostly on some narrow and often forgotten (i.e. hardly travelled) snowmobile trails. Outside the dense forest areas the trail may actually be hidden by drifting snow.

The teams have to start with everything they might need for the race. The only legal supply is at the checkpoints, where you can get cold water. In each of the checkpoints you can also drop dogs from your team, but nothing else. Considering that the weather in this area often is changing within hours, there is a long list of things to take along or, taking a chance.

Thanks to everyone of the organizing team around Ulf Jönson and Freddie Åkerlind for their incredible work.
